What Must I Do to Be Saved?
Where to begin
The question is ancient, and so is the answer.
A Roman jailer asked Paul and Silas this exact question nearly two thousand years ago. Their answer was one sentence:
“Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved”
That's the whole answer. Everything else on this page just explains it.
One
Start with this: you are loved.
You are more loved than you know — more than you can imagine. God knew you before the foundation of the world.
Christianity is not primarily about getting people into heaven. It is about restoring relationship with the Father through Jesus. The Father created you for relationship with Him, and that is what He is after even now.
Two
Something stands in the way.
Sin separated us from God. Everyone has sinned. No one earns heaven, and religion cannot save you — not attendance, not effort, not a clean record kept privately.
Sin also distorts who you really are. You weren't created for it. God designed you for relationship with Him, and everything less than that leaves the ache you have felt.
Three
What Jesus did.
Jesus lived the life you couldn't live. He died the death you deserved, paying the full price for your sin on the cross — His shed blood, His finished work, nothing left owing.
He physically rose from the dead. He came to destroy the works of the devil, and He made a way for you to become a son or daughter of God. Now God offers forgiveness freely, not as wages you earn but as a gift held out to you.

What "repent and believe" means.
“The time is fulfilled, and God’s Kingdom is at hand! Repent, and believe in the Good News”
Repentance is not merely feeling guilty. The word literally means change your mind. Turn — not simply because you're afraid, but because you've encountered God's goodness. Turn away from living life your own way and turn toward Jesus. Believe that His death completely paid your debt.
And believing is more than knowing facts about Jesus. There is a difference between knowing about Jesus and actually trusting Jesus — entrusting your life to Him.
Salvation is not adding Jesus to your life. It is giving Him your life. He is received as Lord, not just Savior.

Answer them at your own pace. Nothing here is recorded or sent anywhere.
1. Are you willing to surrender?
Six
Pray from your heart.
These words are not a formula. Jesus saves — the prayer simply gives your faith a voice. Pray it only if you mean it.
“Jesus, I surrender everything to You. I believe You died for me and rose again. Forgive my sins. Make me new. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit. I choose to follow You for the rest of my life.”

What Scripture says happens next.
“Repent, and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit”
“that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart, one believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”
Eight
Your new life.
None of these earn God's love. All of them are how that love takes root in an ordinary week.
You are adopted into God's family
You are not a guest, a visitor, or a project. You are a son or daughter, brought home by the Father who wanted you.
Your identity has changed
You are a new creation. The old things have passed away. What you did is no longer what you are.
Learn to hear God's voice
He speaks most clearly through Scripture and in prayer. Start small and stay steady — ten unhurried minutes daily will change a year.
Be baptized
Baptism does not purchase salvation; it announces it. Ask a pastor about being baptized soon.
